Legal areas of the body covers front and back of the torso only.

Determination of the points follows the silat rule for “Tanding” matches, where only hard, full significant impact is considered and points will be given to it.

All other areas of the body will not be counted and a hit to the face is illegal and may result in a disqualification.

Areas and maneuvers that are considered illegal

  1. Area above the body protector which is below the neck up to the head.
  2. All joints and maneuvers that the referee feels may lead to unnecessary injury.
  3. Hits that are meant to weaken the opponents such as those that landed around the knees, arms, elbow etc.

Fall: The athlete sits or lies flat (even prone position) on the ground, unable to put up a standing/squatting/kneeling position for a fighting/defense stance.

Instantaneous Fall: The maneuver must be with a single flow without any effective resistance from the opponent after the initiator has completed the grappling technique needed to cause the fall.

Winner Determination

Preliminary Rounds

The preliminary round follows a round robin format, winner of each match will get 1 point. Hence the overall winner of the group is the one that accumulates the most points.

The panel will decide the ranking of the contender in the group through the points awarded to them in their respective matches in case contenders accumulate the same no. of points.

Quarter Final, Semi-Final Rounds and Finals

The top two contenders will proceed to the next round where they will be placed into groups of 4 and will compete in a round-robin format again.

This will continue to the next round where the top two will compete until only 4 contenders left in the tournament. At this stage, it will be the semi-finals where the winner will go on to compete in the finals and the losers will compete for 3rd and 4th placings.

FAQs

1. Is it a full-contact tournament?

Well, if you consider full impact hits from punches, kicks and kneeing which should land only on the body protector (because of this elbowing is not possible unless you can hit the legal areas) and all other hits at other areas must be performed in order to takedown the opponent but not to break their bones and cause deliberate injuries (e.g. kicking straight at the knee and above up to the groin area, kicking directly on the sheen to break it, definitely not allowed)…then is that considered full contact to you?

2. No head strikes allowed at all, yes?

Yes, no head strikes at all intentionally or unintentionally (points will be deducted). The head area is from the small exposed area around the neck upwards; hence directly hitting the expose portion near the neck is also considered hitting on the head as well…

3. Silat style body protector must be worn, but no other protective gear is necessary. (Is a groin guard necessary?)

We provide the silat style body protector only. Groin guard is compulsory but of course this is a personal item, meaning we are not providing it. Sheen guard is also compulsory but participants have to buy it on their own or they can buy from us. As for other guards like arm,  gloves can be worn but not of the hard body armour type. It must be only the padded kind. The silat body protector (non-armoured type) nowadays is much more flexible and do not restrict much of the body movements especially around the waist area; hence we deem it as the best source for now…

4. Are kicks to the legs allowed? Only the head and groin are off-limits, right?

As I have mentioned above, it is allowed with the intention to make your opponent fall as such sweeping the opponent off the ground is a version of kicking the legs to achieve takedown points which is the highest point awarded. Takedown (no resistance) gets 3 points while other hit on the body protector gets 1 point each no matter whether coming from punches or kicks…

5. Are throws allowed?

Yes, it is allowed but the moment there is effective resistance from the opponent the referee will stop it and reset the game. Thereafter no point is awarded after the referee signal stop.

6. What about clinching?

No clinching allowed but we can explore the possibility…

7. Can we attack someone whose back is facing us?

The referee will stop the fight when one of the opponent faces the whole body away with the back facing the attacking contender and will advice him/her not to do it… if he/she insisted to do that points will be deducted.

8. Does a ring-out count for anything?

Of course, the moment even any parts of the body touch the line, the game will stop and reset. The one that commits it will be advised and points will be deducted if he/she continues to do it.

9. Are there any other rules we should be aware of?

Yes, there are several other rules, e.g. what is effective resistance which needs a lot of space to explain. How we reset the game. When to start the attack etc…

We will also conduct cross-training for those who want to familiarize about the rules and regulations of the tournament. Please contact me (ZUL) at 97600334 for details.

1. Kicks to the legs.

This is allowed when the contender’s intention is to make the opponent fall. But when you say using the leg to block, I do not consider that as a kick because when the technique is construed as kicks than the contender can deliberately push it to the opponent even before the opponent’s kick is executed. This will definitely be considered as deliberately causing unnecessary injuries especially if it is aimed at the sheen area. (Point to be discussed)

2. Earning the maximum 3 points.

Basically in order to get the 3 pointer, the contender will have to make the opponent fall. The term “FALL” refers to the opponents unable to put up a stance to continue to fight after the contender has made him/her fall. That is the opponent either landed squarely on the back or prone position with all limbs lie flat on the ground. However if the opponent is able to instantaneously flick back, do cartwheels before his/her back touches the floor or in a crouching position, the 3 points is not awarded and the referee will reset the match.

Another thing is whilst executing the maneuver, there must not be any form of resistance at all being it a push or repeated punches from the opponent. Once there is effective resistance, the match is stopped and reset. This is to protect the contender executing the maneuver because there are instances where injuries to the executer happens especially that may result to ACL injury.
