Highlights of Cross-Sparring @ Cheng San CC
A karate group led by Jali’s younger brother Rusydi came to Cheng San CC on Thursday, 29th October during training time to have a friendly cross-training mainly focusing on the sparring technique to explore the rules of the Martial Art Tanding… Below is the video clip …. ( more to come ) We are also fortunate to get another group of martial art enthusiast from the Chinese Kung Fu joining as well…
We are glad to report that the cross-sparring session at Cheng San CC was a resounding success. All participants were very satisfied and enjoyed themselves thoroughly with the sparring format. This is the first time for all other group and for us this session is much tougher and exciting because the karate group were represented by their more skillful and conditioned athletes.
I am glad that they find the format allows them room to execute most of their technique even though the format disallowed hits to the head. We have resolved the technique of kicking to the thigh area. Kicks to the thigh area is allowed if it is executed in the middle of an attack. We feel that at that moment, the kick is to distract the opponent so that the contender can take the opportunity to score points and it will not be as strong as when the kick is executed either in the beginning or the end of the attack which have the objective of weakening the leg directly.
The feedback that we got make us more pump up to organize more of such exchanges in the future. Perhaps we can do it once every 2 months ? Anyway, we are going to use this as a platform to refine the rules and regulations of the Martial Art Tanding Tournament.
We are going to plan for a bigger participation and a longer session. This will be held on Sunday, 15th November 2009. Tentatively from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please indicate your participation by emailing to me at zulxcluz@hotmail.com as soon as possible.
